Briar Bush Nature Center
A 12.5-acre preserve in the middle of suburban Abington with about a mile of trails, a pond, and the free Dede Long Nature Museum of live animals and a touch table. The Griscom Bird Observatory is a climate-controlled cabin where you watch the feeder traffic through big windows; kids get a Nature Playscape of balancing logs, stumps, and boulders.
High School Park
An 11-plus-acre restored native meadow on the former Cheltenham High School grounds, with demonstration gardens, a rain garden, and a raised bird observation deck above Tookany Creek. Friends of High School Park has tended it since 1995 and runs a Summer Music Series and the one-day Arts in the Park festival.
Horace Pippin Park
Named for Horace Pippin, the self-taught painter who grew up in West Chester and became one of the country's most collected folk artists. A small neighborhood green on West Market Street.
