A 279-acre Natural Lands preserve of native wildflower meadow and woodland on Swedesford Road, with unpaved trails, leashed dogs welcome, and Northern Harriers on the birding list. Free, dawn to dusk, closed Tuesdays.

Four Mills Nature Reserve

A 56-acre preserve along the Wissahickon Creek and the headquarters of Wissahickon Trails, with two half-mile loop trails of hard-packed dirt. The 1891 Four Mills Barn on the grounds was designed by Philadelphia architect Horace Trumbauer for an estate called Abendruh.
