The Best Restaurants in Doylestown
Picking a State Street dinner starts arguments. This is our side of the argument, ranked.
Doylestown has enough good kitchens that ranking them is the town's favorite fight, so we went ten deep and picked our side. The top of the order holds the small-plates room the borough saves for celebrating and a seasonal kitchen named for the chef's two grandmothers; further down come soup dumplings on Main, live jazz with your carried-in bottle, and brunch inside a converted 1800s hat factory. Honey
Creative American small plates, dinner only, five nights a week — this is where Doylestown goes when there's something to celebrate. Save room for the 'Liquid Desserts' section of the menu, which is exactly what it sounds like.
Vernafern
Chef Justin McClain named it for his two grandmothers, cuts the pasta fresh in-house, and cooks root-to-shoot, so the menu moves when the farms do. Seasonal cooking on South Main, with receipts.
Domani Star
The family-run Italian BYOB where the open kitchen is the floor show. Everything is homemade, and live jazz goes with whatever bottle you carried in.
The Hattery Stove & Still
Brunch upstairs, cocktails in the cellar bar, all inside an 1800s hat factory. The chicken and waffles have a following for a reason — get there before the wait does.
Genevieve's Kitchen
Chef Joey McAlinden's BYOB, named for the mentor he cooked beside for years at Amici's Ristorante. New American with an Italian accent, brunch through dinner, directly across from the County Theater.
Slate Bleu
The town's dinner-only French bistro on South Main, with a deep beer and wine list and a kitchen that closes at 9, so book like a grown-up. The on-site parking is free, which downtown reads like a typo.
Kung Fu Restaurant
Soup dumplings on Main Street, no drive to Chinatown required. Go straight to the chef's specials: Mongolian lamb, and roast duck tucked into lotus-leaf steamed buns.
Cross Culture Indian Restaurant
The dressed-up Indian option on West State, equally serious about the vegetarian half of the menu. The full bar is a recent addition; the kitchen never needed the help.
Zad Albasha Mediterranean Grill & Cafe
Modern Mediterranean on South Main — halal, BYOB, and open past midnight on weekends. The late answer when the rest of town has gone quiet.
Farmhouse Tavern
An English pub with a working fireplace and a Dr. Pepper pulled pork sandwich that regulars plan around. Social hour runs 4 to 6 on weekdays, right when you need it.
