The Best Restaurants in West Chester

Half this list lives on Gay Street alone. The other half is the reason to leave it.

West Chester packs more real kitchens into a few blocks than most towns manage in a whole zip code. Ours opens with James Beard-nominated pasta on West Gay and finds room for gumbo in a small purple BYOB and a Haitian kitchen whose name just means food. Ten spots fit, and the near-misses kept us up a little.

1

Andiario

Chef Anthony Andiario's farm-driven Italian on West Gay Street, house-made pasta on a menu that turns with the season. James Beard-nominated cooking that still reads neighborhood — the rest of this list is playing for second.

106 W Gay St, West Chester, PA 19380

2

High Street Caffe

Gumbo and jambalaya in a small purple BYOB on South High Street, blackened everything a house habit. A West Chester fixture — bring your own bottle and let the kitchen bring the spice.

4

Pietro's Prime

Dry-aged steaks and a martini list a block off the courthouse — West Chester's white-tablecloth move. When the full dinner is too much, the bar and a Manhattan will do.

125 W Market St, West Chester, PA 19382

5

Manje

Caribbean and Haitian cooking on East Gay Street. The name is Haitian Creole for food — no menu poetry, just a kitchen that backs it up.

Limoncello West Chester

Wood-fired pizzas and pastas on North Walnut Street, in a big dining room that still packs out most nights. The bar earns its crowd too.

Mussels and burgers off a from-scratch comfort menu, with a long draft list to work through. The gastropub end of West Gay Street, from a local group.
